This is the third vintage release of our Déjà Vu label since it was reimagined as a Shiraz/Pinot Noir blend.

Inspired by Hunter Valley winemaking legends such as Maurice O’Shea and Murray Tyrrell, this is a tribute to the traditional Shiraz Pinot Noir "Hunter River Burgundy" blends of days gone by. The label “DJV” refers to the sense of déja vu that you may well experience when tasting this wine, and it sits (quite intentionally) in the lighter end of the medium-bodied spectrum.
Try giving it a bit of a chill on a warm sunny day....

Winemaking Overview

  • In the Vineyard

    This wine is an intriguing blend of Shiraz (56%) from the 'Hillcrest' block of Ridgeview Estate vineyard in Belford, and Pinot Noir (44%) from Red Door Estate located on the rich red loams of Hermitage Road.

  • In the Winery

    There was approximately 10% whole bunch inclusion during the fermentation of the Pinot Noir which was followed by 11 months maturation in six-year-old French oak 300L hogsheads. The older barrels were used to ensure the bright primary fruit of the Pinot was not overshadowed by any oak.
    During our trial blending process, the Ridgeview Estate 'Hillcrest' Shiraz parcel was selected for its bright red and blue fruited aromatics and supple tannin structure. This wine was also matured in older barrels.
    The slightly fuller style of Pinot Noir and lighter Shiraz in the 2025 is the reason for the varietal percentages in this vintage, resulting in a wine that once again sits quite intentionally at the lighter end of the medium-bodied spectrum.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance & Aroma

    The colour is bright medium ruby with an attractive purple hue.

    Enticingly savoury nose of fresh red and dark berry fruits with hints of potpourri, raspberry bramble and a wet riverstone like mineral note.

  • Palate & Finish

    The palate is light in body with a subtle silky texture from fine velvet like tannin surrounding a core of fresh blueberry, raspberry and boysenberry fruit. There’s hints of delicate Middle Eastern spice, vanilla and pink peppercorn with notes of graphite adding a savoury quality. This wine finishes bright and refreshing with a long moreish palate, and deliciously sits in the lighter end of the medium-bodied spectrum, but also punches well above its weight.

WHEN TO DRINK

Our DJV Shiraz Pinot Noir blend is designed to be enjoyed during the freshness and vibrancy of its youth, although we suspect that some medium-term cellaring would not be out of the question.
Don't be afraid to give it a slight chill on a sunny day.....
