Winemaking Overview
-
In the Vineyard
The 2024 vintage was a relatively low cropping and very early vintage in the Hunter.
This vineyard is always one of the earlier blocks to ripen, and was hand-picked on the 27th of January - three weeks earlier than last year.
Located at the very end of Sweetwater Road, planted in 1998 with the 1654 clone of Shiraz, the red/brown loam soils over limestone found in this area tends to provide a distinctive floral lift and complexity to Shiraz. -
In the Winery
Hand-picked, destemmed, but not crushed, the whole berry fermentation commenced after a 48-hour cold soak.
At the end of a two week cool fermentation on skins, the wine was pressed off into a selection of new, one, two and three-year-old premium French oak 300L Hogsheads for maturation. The wine spent 13 months in oak before our final blending decisions, with only the very best barrels going to this wine (and a few to our 2024 Elenay Shiraz blend).
Bottled in June 2025 and rested for 11 months prior to release 16th May 2026.14.5% ABV

"Spectacular in its balance, fragrance and intensity, with hints of rose petals and spice overlying fresh, perfectly ripe cherry and plum fruit. It has a weighty richness without feeling overdone. The fine structure contains its power, while purity and depth shine through. An individual-vineyard wine of real integrity and incredible value."
Tasting Notes
-
Appearance & Aroma
The colour is vivid purple, with a ruby tint.
The nose follows with anise, chocolate Moroccan spice and red petals in addition to ripe dark fruits and fresh berries.
-
Palate & Finish
The palate is on the fuller side of medium bodied with a core of plum, blackberries and mulberry like fruit enhanced by a fleshy texture. There is a layer that opens to suggest pink peppercorns, black tea and licorice strap. The tannins are fine grained and round and add a savoriness to the long finish.

The Vineyards
Whilst I have always applied a no compromise, attention to detail approach to my winemaking, I truly believe that 90% of the quality lies in the vineyard. The key to great wine is ‘keeping it simple’ to preserve that potential quality from the vine through to the bottle - Andrew Thomas
