2024 Dam Block Shiraz
2024 Dam Block Shiraz
Couldn't load pickup availability
From a tiny 0.8Ha block, located just across the Dam ridge from the iconic Kiss Shiraz vineyard in central Pokolbin. This block is the sole survivor in it's entirety from the recent housing development at Pokolbin Estate Vineyard.
A contemporary expression of Hunter Shiraz with vibrant red & blue fruits and a juicy, succulent palate.
An amazing value alternative if you can't get your hands on a bottle of Kiss.

Winemaking Overview
-
In the Vineyard
The Hunter experienced a very warm and dry growing season in 2024, resulting in one of the earliest vintages on record. Hand-picked on the 3rd of February 2023, which is exactly three weeks earlier than last year.
This wine comes from a tiny 0.8 hectare block just across the dam ridge from our flagship old vine Kiss Shiraz.
It shows similar dark blue fruits as well as the distinctive savoury texture and al-dente tannins of this pedigree vineyard, but with a slightly more extroverted personality (and a slightly more affordable price....) -
In the Winery
For the 2024 vintage Dam Block Shiraz, the fruit was destemmed but not crushed allowing some bright carbonic characters to emerge during the relatively cool nine day fermentation on skins. Pressed off to new, two and three-year-old French oak hogsheads (300L) in roughly equal proportions for 14 months maturation.
Bottled 25th June 2025
Released 16th May 2026
A very limited production of 144 dozen14.5% ABV

"Rich boysenberry flavours plus a hint of lemon and a savoury edge supported by bold tannins. The faint rusticity is rather compelling with its gentle swagger and grip. The amplification of the flavours on the close is fabulous, and it utterly hooks you in"
Tasting Notes
-
Appearance & Aroma
Very bright purple colour with a ruby tone.
The nose is generous and suggests dark berries and fruits alongside more complex notes of cacao, cedar, clove and cassia.
-
Palate & Finish
Immediately the palate greets you with a seductive voluptuous texture and structural ripe fine grained tannin. An elaborate wine with a core of blackberry, mulberry and black cherry fruit, supported by deluxe oak adding notes of espresso, hazelnut, exotic spice and hickory smoke. The finish is long and compelling.
WHEN TO DRINK
This wine is drinking deliciously now, but you will be rewarded for giving it medium-term cellaring. Drink anywhere from 2026 to 2036 and beyond.
The Vineyards
Whilst I have always applied a no compromise, attention to detail approach to my winemaking, I truly believe that 90% of the quality lies in the vineyard. The key to great wine is ‘keeping it simple’ to preserve that potential quality from the vine through to the bottle - Andrew Thomas
