Our ‘Two of a Kind’ wines are a tribute to the multi-regional blends that created some of Australia’s best wines in the 50’s and 60’s. The wines are based on the Hunter Valley’s signature varieties of Semillon and Shiraz, and blending with the varieties that are well suited to other South Australian regions providing an interesting twist and extra dimension to these unique wine styles.

This is a blend of Hunter Valley Semillon (60%) and Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc (40%). The Hunter Valley Semillon is an earlier picked block from the Braemore vineyard. The Sauvignon Blanc was pressed at Kaesler Wines and then transported cold to the Hunter for fermentation. The two components are blended as soon as practically possible and then left on yeast lees for a period to build some extra textural complexity. Early bottling captures the freshness of fruit for which this style has become renowned.

Tasting Notes

Showing the classic clarity and sparkle of immensely drinkable, classic white blends, this wine leaps from the glass with a vitality of unadorned, pristine fruit. Artfully crafted, the wine shines with delicate, citrus-driven Hunter Valley Semillon and finds further detail and character from the vibrant tropical fruit characters of the Sauvignon Blanc. The result is a quietly complex, refreshing blend that’s intended for warm weather, outdoors, and moments of unfussy drinking.

2022 Two of a Kind Shiraz

Our ‘Two of a Kind’ wines are a tribute to the multi regional blends that created some of Australia’s best wines in the 50’s and 60’s. The wines are based on the Hunter Valley’s signature varieties of Semillon and Shiraz, and blended with the varieties that are well suited to other South Australian regions providing an interesting twist and extra dimension to these unique wine styles.

This regional blend is made up of  Hunter Valley Shiraz (51%) from the Fordwich Hill vineyard and McLaren Vale Shiraz (49%) from a single vineyard in the Blewett Springs area. The two components are fermented separately but then blended soon after pressing and matured in premium quality French oak 300L Hogsheads for 16 months prior to bottling.

"A tried and true blend of 51/49% Hunter Valley/McLaren Vale fruit, separately fermented but blended shortly thereafter, then spending time in premium quality oak for almost two years. Only just medium bodied, but has plenty happening, the palate lengthened by fine but persistent savoury tannins."

Tasting Notes

Youthful bright deep purple colour with an expressive nose of violet, mocha choc, vanilla, tobacco pouch, pink pepper and generous fresh dark berries and fruits.

The palate is full and alluring with classic dark chocolate, rooibos tea and fruit pastilles with a core of ripe boysenberry, red plum and dark cherry with hints of dutch licorice and xmas spices. Expect fine soft tannin with an interlaced juicy mouthfeel. There’s a captivating length to the palate, it will keep you coming back for more.

This is a seamless, seductive, and dangerously drinkable style. This wine has the attributes to cellar well over the next five+ years, yet its fruit intensity and supple tannin structure make it enjoyable in its youth, particularly with food.
