Winemaking Overview
-
In the Vineyard
A very welcome return of this single-site wine in 2025, after the crop was unfortunately decimated by wingless grasshoppers in 2024.
We yielded just over three tonnes of hand-picked fruit from our allocated rows, which has resulted in a relatively small production of only 138 dozen. -
In the Winery
This vineyard, situated on a sandy/loam strip along Oakey Creek Road, Pokolbin (hence, The O.C.), was planted in 1998. Earlier vintages of this wine were made in a riper more generously flavoured, contemporary style, however we have since realised this particular vineyard is more suited to a classically shaped Hunter Valley Semillon.

Tasting Notes
-
Appearance & Aroma
The colour is a luminous very pale lemon with a soft green tint
The nose is fresh, bright and varietally classic, layered with yuzu zest, nashi pear, and ripe jackfruit.

Palate & Finish
The palate is refreshingly dry and instantly appealing, bursting with lemon myrtle, delicate starfruit, Tahitian lime, and lemongrass. There is a line of minerality with hints of wet river stones, dried ginger and a trace of saffron adding a subtle complexity. Pure and vibrant, it finishes with impressive length and finesse.
Delicious, well-textured and tangy, just add your seafood of choice with a squeeze of lemon.
WHEN TO DRINK
This is a Semillon built for satisfying thirst and curiosity now, but will also reward patience with time in the cellar.
Drink now in its youth or cellar for up to 5-15 years.

The Vineyards
Whilst I have always applied a no compromise, attention to detail approach to my winemaking, I truly believe that 90% of the quality lies in the vineyard. The key to great wine is ‘keeping it simple’ to preserve that potential quality from the vine through to the bottle - Andrew Thomas
