Hunter Valley semillon is one of the worlds most uniquely regional wine styles. This vineyard, situated on a sandy/loam strip along Oakey Creek Road, Pokolbin (hence, The O.C.), was planted in 1976. The fruit is allowed to ripen more fully than our traditional styles, producing a more generously flavoured, contemporary style of Hunter Semillon.
The warm and dry 2014 growing season provided perfect conditions to produce the fuller stylistic definition that we’ve come to expect from this label. It was hand picked in perfect condition on the 21st of January, whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel. The riper fruit and slightly gentler natural acidity have produced a ‘userfriendly’ style that will provide excellent current drinking, as well as medium term cellaring potential.
Move over sauvignon blanc…!!
Glowing in its star bright green/gold hue, this wine finds a blistering concentration of classic Hunter Valley semillon character – tangy citrus flavours, fine, steel-like mineral vein and a hint of grassiness over gentle tropical fruit characters are the wine’s forte. There’s fine detail in this more powerful expression of Semillon, taking time to unfurl in its very compact and sleek frame. Freshness is the motif – a wine built for satisfying thirst and curiosity now, but will reward with time too.
