2022 The O.C. Semillon
2022 The O.C. Semillon
Couldn't load pickup availability
A single vineyard wine with fruit sourced from the transitional loamy sand flats along Oakey Creek Road, it is bursting with bright lemon zest citrus. A vibrant expression of the Hunter Valley’s iconic Semillon. Whilst it has a slightly riper feel than what we've seen in recent vintages, the core of fine acidity is still a defining feature of wines made from this wonderful patch of dirt.

Winemaking Overview
-
In the Vineyard
The lower yields experienced again from this vineyard in 2022 led to it being one of our earlier picked Semillons this year, and it has a slightly riper feel than we've seen in recent vintages. That being said, the core of fine acidity is still a defining feature of wines made from this wonderful patch of dirt. We yielded just over four tonnes of hand-picked fruit from our allocated rows which has resulted in a relatively small production of only 291 dozen.

Tasting Notes
-
Appearance & Aroma
Glowing in its star bright green/gold hue, this wine finds a blistering concentration of classic Hunter Valley Semillon character.
In the glass, you'll detect tangy citrus, subtle tropical notes, and a hint of freshly cut grass.

Palate & Finish
This wine bolts straight out of the gate with classic Hunter Semillon character; tangy citrus flavours, steel-like mineral vein and a hint of grassiness over gentle tropical fruit characters are the wine’s forte. There’s some fine detail in this slightly riper expression of Semillon, taking time to unfurl in its very compact and sleek frame.
Delicious, well-textured and tangy, just add your seafood of choice with a squeeze of lemon.
WHEN TO DRINK
This is a Semillon built for satisfying thirst and curiosity now, but will also reward patience with time in the cellar.
Drink now in its youth or cellar for up to 5-15 years.

The Vineyards
Whilst I have always applied a no compromise, attention to detail approach to my winemaking, I truly believe that 90% of the quality lies in the vineyard. The key to great wine is ‘keeping it simple’ to preserve that potential quality from the vine through to the bottle - Andrew Thomas
