2018 Fordwich Hill Semillon
Situated on the western fringe of the lower Hunter Valley, the slightly lower annual rainfall and red volcanic soils of the Broke Fordwich subregion combine to produce relatively early ripening Semillon with distinctive tropical aromatics. The fruit is allowed to ripen more than the classically styled Semillons, resulting in a contemporary expression of Hunter Semillon providing an excellent early drinking, food friendly style.
Glowing in its star bright green/gold hue, this wine finds a blistering concentration of classic Hunter Valley semillon character – tangy citrus flavours, fine, steel-like mineral vein and a hint of grassiness over gentle tropical fruit characters are the wine’s forte. There’s fine detail in this more classic expression of Semillon (paricularly compared to previous vintages of this label), taking time to unfurl in its very compact and sleek frame. Freshness is the motif – a wine built for satisfying thirst and curiosity now, but will reward with time too.
