2016 Dam Block Shiraz
The second vintage instalment of a new single vineyard Shiraz to our range, this wine comes from a tiny 0.8 Ha block just across the dam from our flagship Kiss Shiraz. It shows similar dark blue fruits as well as the distinctive savoury texture and al-dente tannins of this pedigree vineyard, but at a slightly more affordable price. We have been taking this fruit for some years now, and it has always been an important component of the Two of a Kind and Synergy Shiraz, as well as a few barrels making the grade for Elenay over the last few vintages. The inaugural 2015 release proved very popular with our customers.
The 2016 Hunter vintage has yielded some fantastic red wines, certainly enjoyable in their youth and the best will be regarded as classics in years to come. The grapes were hand picked on the 17th of February, cold soaked for 48 hours and then fermented on skins for about seven days. The wine was then matured for 16 months exclusively in premium French oak barriques. After bottling, the wine rested in the cellar for ten months prior to being released 5th May, 2018.
Another modern expression of Hunter Shiraz displaying a medium/deep crimson hue. Typically medium bodied in weight, but showing quite vibrant, aromatic red and blue primary fruit. The palate with it's sweet fruit seems quite 'plush' considering it's weight, and the impeccably balanced French oak and savoury tannins extending the length and breadth of the wine. If you can't get your hands on a bottle of Kiss, this wine will certainly give you a warm-hearted cuddle.... Drink 2018 – 2025+
